These fellows, painted butterfly caterpillars.
We read this book at circle.
We will be centering our study about butterflies around this Eric Carle book.
After looking at exploring our caterpillars and reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar we acted out the story, taking turns being the very hungry caterpillar.
The kids LOVED being this munchy crunchy fellow.
It was time to head for our learning tables.
The children took turns exploring butterfly life cycle figurines.
Through out this unit I coupled these figures with these books and butterfly life cycle cards
The children enjoying sorting through our butterfly books, our plastic butterflies, and life cycle figures.
The kids LOVED The Very Hungry Caterpillar so much we made these hungry caterpillars from Pringles cans with story cards of all the foods the Very Hungry Caterpillar enjoyed on his way to becoming a butterfly.
We glued strips of different shades of green around the can, then put together the hungry caterpillar's face, cut a mouth in the lid and stapled this bad boy to the lid. The kids took their caterpillar home to retell the story to their parents.
We made these caterpillars from pom-poms and craft sticks. The children enjoyed chasing each other around pretending to eat each other.
All this talk about this hungry caterpillar going about munching crunching his way through tons of food made us hungry so we ate our lunch and took a nice long nap. Wonder if when we wake we will have gone through a metamorphose.
WORD FOR THE DAY: METAMORPHOSE- great change.
If we said it once we said it fifty times.
What is a metamorphose? A GREAT CHANGE!
When we woke we practiced our names and did this life cycle worksheet.
Up next, The Very Hungry Caterpillar Part two!
See you then
Ms. P
