The Very Busy Spider May 2nd

Today centered around this book

    Sally the Spider Ss Song
(to the tune of Sally the Camel)

Sally the Spider has eight legs
Sally the Spider has eight legs
Sally the Spider has eight legs
So spin Sally, spin
Boom, Boom, Boom

Sally the Spider spins her web
Sally the Spider spins her web
Sally the Spider spins her web
So spin Sally, spin
Boom Boom Boom

Sally the Spider snags her supper
Sally the Spider snags her supper
Sally the Spider snags her supper
So spin Sally, spin.
Boom, Boom, Boom
BOOM!

During center time we enjoyed this bug sorting center.

We also enjoyed this Sally snags supper game.

The children place the correct number of "bugs" on pre-programmed webs.

Fun early math learning.

Then we made these Sally the Spider hats!

We painted a small paper plate black, glued on big wiggle eyes, stapled to a black construction paper band then added eight, fan-folded construction paper legs.

Aren't we cute little spiders?

We leaned about spiders, they have eight legs, two body parts, eight eyes, and two spinnerets, and hatch from eggs.

To help them remember our spider fact we made these really cute spider arts found on Pinterest.

We cleaned up our art mess so we could bake some cupcakes that we will work with after nap.

All morning we talked about why the farmer loves the spider.  How the spider saves the farmer's crops from being eaten by bugs such as locus and grasshoppers.  How if it weren't for the spiders all the other bugs would take over and make us all miserable and so, even though we might be afraid of them, and even though we most certainly certainly needed to be careful of them, spiders were really our friend and very helpful.

"Do we love spiders?"
"YES!" they yelled.
"Do we need spiders?"
"Yes, yes?" they yelled
"Are spiders our friends?"
"Yes, we love the spiders!"

Then we went outside and they saw a spider and immediately killed it.

I guess we need a few more lessons about spiders, huh?

Then it was time for lunch and nap.

Chicken/Frito casserole,  salad, cantaloupe, and milk.

When we woke from nap we practiced writing our names then we turned our cupcakes into spiders.

Happy Spider Day, Everyone!
