We talked about what a plant needs in order to grow. Air, water, soil, and sun. We talked about the life cycle of a plant. We each took turns being a seed and growing, flowering, dropping our seeds, and then dying. They loved the dying best. Go figure.
Then we started our garden by planting seeds in our small pots. We planted green beans, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, and pumpkins with our eye on this fall.
Then we made these really cute fingerprint flowers
We counted our petals to add a bit of math into the mix and wrote the number of petals to the side of our paper.
The kids enjoyed their fingerprint painting so much I got out scrap paper for them to continue until they were finished.
Then we worked on these parts of a flower art.
Then each child colored their own plant journal to keep track of our seeds as they become plants.
By now it was time for lunch then a nap.
We enjoyed steak fingers, mashed potatoes, green beans, and watermelon with milk.
After nap we practiced writing our names and did this plant worksheet.
Then we talked about how bees and butterflies help our plants to grow, then we made this Very Hungry Caterpillar out of egg cartons.
Happy Plant Day!
